“Having recently completed a decade at ABB, my first seven years were in Electrification Distribution Solutions, where I worked as a Line Manager. Eager to explore new opportunities, I accepted a new position in 2022 in the Process Automation Energy Industries business and am currently leading a software team for a specific business line from India.” 

From her beginnings as a software developer, Sheena has grown into a prominent leader in the industry “My journey has been very fulfilling, and I am proud of it. There were ups and downs, but I enjoyed the path full of success and growth.” She has developed strong leadership skills by overcoming various challenges, with a focus on team development, driving change, and aligning individual aspirations with team goals.  

For Sheena, being acknowledged for her work, valuing her contributions, and bringing changes are all that is needed to stay motivated. Understanding the importance of the work we do—writing code, delivering solutions, and making an impact on the world—is another motivating factor. Sheena cares deeply about her team, and this is reflected in her leadership style.  

Sheena manages her routine by creating a weekly to-do list, which helps her prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.   

As Sheena's role expanded, she took on additional responsibilities, including collaborating with global teams and clients. She focused on fostering trust and confidence between local and global teams to ensure seamless coordination.  

Reflecting on challenging times, Sheena recalled being responsible for delivering multiple projects with similar deadlines. When project managers began contacting her team directly, it became difficult to prioritize. To solve this, she became the single point of contact for all project managers, assigning tasks based on her team's workload while ensuring they had a healthy work-life balance. She appreciated the support she received from ABB during this time.   

ABB offers countless growth opportunities, and through the Internal Job Posting portal, employees can explore new roles within the company. I have seen many people transition from national to international positions, and there are no restrictions as long as you are eligible. ABB supports employee growth and provides ways to enhance career development.  

Sheena defines herself as a “Problem solver” and was awarded the title of “Go Getter” for designing content optimization to achieve desired results. Additionally, she and her team reduced the time to process large data sets from 2-3 days to just 3-4 hours, significantly improving report generation timelines adding another milestone in her career.   

Apart from core technical knowledge, Sheena advises others in the industry to maintain a learning attitude and adopt an engineering mindset. Always look for solutions to problems, keep learning, move forward, and stay patient. With these qualities, you can achieve great results.
