Early on, Vidya found herself drawn to engineering and technology, a field she describes as more exciting and dynamic than others. Reflecting on her 15+ years of career, she notes how technology has evolved over the years, transforming industries with automation and digital tools. “Shifting from manual paperwork to seamlessly integrating digital tools, we’ve come so far,” Vidya says, impressed by how advanced tools have revolutionized design, calculations, and data analysis, while automation has streamlined project tracking.
At ABB, Vidya has witnessed significant progress in gender diversity and inclusion, noting that many talented women have joined the team and are thriving. “There’s no gender bias here,” she says, reflecting on how she was treated equally from the start. She credits much of her career growth to ABB's supportive culture, where everyone, regardless of gender, is given equal opportunities. “My self-confidence has grown tremendously,” Vidya adds, highlighting how ABB’s culture of support has helped her flourish.
When asked about the key elements of her work, Vidya says collaboration and understanding the customer requirements are crucial. “We analyse products carefully to serve our clients better and highlight the technical advantages of ABB products,” she explains. Vidya’s approach to winning bids is straightforward: “We always focus on optimizing our offerings and placing our products technically in the best light. On-time support is key to closing deals.”
Her motivation, she says, comes from persistence. “When the path forward isn’t clear, don’t give up. Just Pause, Recharge, and come back stronger,” she advises. This mindset has been essential to her success at ABB.
She’s grateful for the guidance she’s received from her leaders. “My manager has always encouraged me to push my limits,” she says. “They lead by example, sharing insights for personal and professional growth.” One piece of advice that stood out was to consider other people’s perspectives. “It helps you understand their challenges and expectations,” Vidya adds.
Landing a role at ABB has been one of her proudest achievements. “It’s given me the chance to explore ABB’s diverse product offerings and make meaningful contributions to our clients,” she says. Being part of a global team has broadened her perspective, introducing her to new ideas and approaches while allowing her to deepen her expertise in her technical field. With over 13 years at ABB, Vidya has grown tremendously, continuously learning and evolving throughout her career.
Vidya recalls a particularly challenging time during the COVID-19 pandemic when she was assigned a large project with a shorter deadline. “Throughout the project, I received not only the necessary resources but also support for my well-being. My senior leaders ensured the project progressed smoothly and was completed on time, while also making sure my work-life balance was maintained.” She reflects on the care and teamwork she experienced, saying it encouraged her to take more initiative and feel confident in her role.
Her role grew when she successfully completed the required training and qualified to be a part of Frankfurt’s Technical Sales support team, where she works on implementing systems and tackling technical solutions globally. “Collaboration is essential,” Vidya emphasizes, especially when customizing products to meet client requirements for India.
Vidya also acknowledges the vital support and encouragement from her family, which has been a key pillar in her career journey. "My family has played an important role in helping me stay focused and motivated as I progress in my professional development," she shares.
Vidya’s approach to Bids& Proposals is focused on thorough analysis. “A good proposal comes from understanding the customer requirements and evaluating both technical and commercial aspects to offer the best optimized solution,” she
advises. For Vidya, continuous learning and focus are the keys to success, both in her career and in life. “This mindset has driven my growth, and I encourage others to adopt it too,” she concludes.
