Qurrata's Story

From Intern to Project Management, Qurrata Choir Marham chose to continue writing his story with ABB right after graduating from Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia. Within his role focusing on Project Management, Qurrata led the execution of a project, delivering the project according to the budget, client’s specifications and within the timeline, managing project documentation and aided inquiries from customers, and building and supporting strong relationships with customers.

Before even joining the team, Qurrata was no stranger to ABB. He heard about ABB since two of his seniors from his university being selected for the Jürgen Dormann Foundation (JDF) scholarship. The JDF scholarship was set up to sponsor bright students from all over the world. He tried his luck during his third year and was selected to be a JDF Scholar. “I was always interested in control systems and robotics, so it made sense for me to join ABB since they are pioneers it.” Qurrata says “ABB provides one of the best and most prestigious scholarships for Electrical Engineering. There were a lot of opportunities that would help my future in the industry,”

Challenges were a constant during Qurrata’s internship. His manager exposed Qurrata to projects and responsibilities usually given to full-time employees. This opportunity allowed Qurrata to get a glimpse of a real-life engineer’s experience. One of those real-life experiences was when Qurrata was trusted to present ABB’s robots to customers during a robotics exhibition in Indonesia. He briefed customers on handling the robots and trained them on how to use their features. “My experiences in during my internship has shaped my decision to continue working with ABB since I already know what to expect when working here,” Qurrata said.

After Qurrata’s internship came to end, he continued his story with ABB as a trainee through the Graduate Engineering Program, now known as ABB Discovery Program. "My career progressed a lot faster in ABB than my peers from other companies. After a month of training, my manager entrusted me to lead a project while my peers are still in training,”

He continued his story with ABB within the field of Project Management in ABB and handled more than 40 projects since he first started his role. When asked which of his projects was the most challenging, he replied “The refurbishing crane project was one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever handled. I was responsible to manage the project starting from when my team and I received a confirmation from the customer until the installation and commissioning part of the project. In this project, I collaborated with more than 10 different vendors to deliver the project on time and on budget.”

For Qurrata, every project and every challenge were a learning opportunity for him. “The challenges I faced in ABB has helped me to push the boundaries of my capabilities and drove me to keep going. With the support of my manager and team, I can strive to be the best version of myself,”
