Pedy has worked for ABB her entire 10-year career. However, no two days have been the same since she started.
Originally from Chongqing, in south-east China, Pedy joined ABB Shanghai after completing her master’s in mechanical engineering at Zheijang University. In her early years at ABB, she worked on innovative and forward-looking projects as a part of our ABB Robotics Research & Development (R&D) center – one of the first of its kind in China. The Robotics R&D center focuses on the development of small robots that are used in the manufacturing industry, food & beverage, and electronics.
Even when she was early on in her career, Pedy felt she had a lot of trust and responsibility at ABB, and she also learned a lot from her mentor and more experienced colleagues. She came to realize that ABB empowers its people to own their projects and be successful – beginning on day 1 – and encourages a supportive learning environment.
The support she felt early on in her career has continued throughout her time at ABB. She recalls when she was on maternity leave, her team and leaders were eager to welcome her back and make sure her career advancement continued when she returned.
The sense of trust she experienced in the first years with ABB is paired with a clear sense of purpose. As a program manager in R&D, Pedy coordinates research groups that keep up with the evolution of technology and competitors. “On the market, we see more and more smaller players, very agile,” she shares. “Reacting quickly is key”.
Developing collaborative robots means a lot to her. These robots help customers increase efficiency, productivity and sustainability. And they help refocus the workforce on value-added tasks, taking employees away from heavy and repetitive tasks. Cobots are part of the future of automation, allowing a smarter, user friendly, and safer work environment.
In her current role working with robots, she’s found she identified with the IRB1300 robot – a very agile and quick robot that is in line with her personality!
