Early Beginnings
Before joining ABB, Jade was a university student studying psychology and working part-time at a shop. Despite her initial interest in psychology, she found herself unfulfilled and searching for a new direction. Her father, who works in the motors industry, informed her about an apprenticeship scheme at ABB. Intrigued by the opportunity, Jade researched the company and attended an open day at Warrington College, where she decided to apply for the apprenticeship.
Starting at ABB
Jade began her apprenticeship at ABB in 2017. The program included a six-week rotation through various departments, including drives tendering, tech support, low voltage motors, high voltage motors, and contracts. This rotation allowed her to gain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s operations.
Finding Her Path
During her rotations, Jade discovered her interest in contracts and project management. She was particularly drawn to the intricacies of legal and contractual work, finding it both challenging and rewarding. Jade credits her mentor, Andrew Garry, for his unwavering support and guidance throughout her apprenticeship. Jade says “I would not be here without Andrew Garry, honestly, he has been my rock throughout the entire thing. He's pushed me. He's guided me so well through all my academic achievements. Got me in touch with the right people, invested his time in me and genuinely I wouldn't have achieved my master’s without his help.”
Further Education and Growth
Jade’s commitment to her career led her to pursue a degree apprenticeship in quantity surveying at Salford University where she graduated in 2021 and immediately began her master’s degree in international Commercial Law, which she completed in December 2024.
Growing in Confidence
One of the most significant aspects of Jade's journey has been her growth in confidence. Reflecting on her development, Jade shared, "I'm confident in my job role. I'm confident in speaking to customers. I’m comfortable putting my foot down and telling people what's right and what's wrong." Now a project manager at ABB, Jade continues to apply her extensive knowledge and skills to her work.
