What does real impact look like at work? For Hanuman, it's not just about driving global supply chain efficiency – it's about showing up for people. From advocating for inclusion and mental well-being to creating space for unheard voices, Hanuman’s story is a powerful reminder that empathy, when put into action, can transform workplace culture.
Hanuman Swami, Global Planning and Fulfillment Manager, India
As a Global Planning and Fulfillment Manager based in India, Hanuman plays a pivotal role in driving complex global supply chain initiatives and delivering breakthrough results at ABB. But beyond the technical scope of his role, his true impact is felt through the values he champions – amplifying inclusion, integrity and well-being – and the culture he helps shape.
When Hanuman joined ABB in 2016, it was the company’s technological depth and global reputation that first drew him in. What kept him there, however, was the space it offered for individuals to create meaningful change – not just in engineering, but in people’s lives.
Early in his journey, Hanuman found himself reflecting deeply on inclusion and the subtle yet powerful ways discrimination can manifest. Witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by individuals from underrepresented communities, he made a personal commitment to foster awareness and respect. By openly embracing empathy and acceptance, he became a trusted ally – someone others felt safe confiding in, regardless of their background. “You don’t need a title to lead change. You just need to show up, listen, and act,” says Hanuman.
His efforts extended beyond conversations. He began sharing thoughtful reflections and stories on platforms like LinkedIn, drawing attention to the importance of inclusion and mental well-being. His authentic voice resonated, eventually earning him opportunities to speak at large-scale diversity events, where he spoke passionately about creating safe and respectful workplaces for all.
“You don’t need a title to lead change. You just need to show up, listen, and act.”
Our values are the cornerstone of our culture. They shape everything we do, guide our behavior and interactions with our colleagues, customers, partners and society as a whole, and help us realize our purpose. By living our four ABB values, we lead by example in how we do business and behave.
Within ABB, Hanuman became an active member of the employee resource group focused on diversity and inclusion. As part of the communications team, he helped organize events, amplify personal stories, and publish content to drive awareness. He believes strongly in the power of storytelling – not as a tool for sympathy, but as a way to connect, educate, and shift perspectives.
Mental well-being is another area where Hanuman’s impact has been deeply personal. Motivated by personal experiences, he became a vocal advocate for destigmatizing mental health conversations. Through articles, awareness sessions, and one-on-one interactions with colleagues, he’s helped normalize the topic and connect individuals with the support they need. His approach is simple: be present, be approachable, and be kind. Sometimes, as he learned, even a simple “Are you OK?” can change someone’s life.
His advocacy and innovation have not gone unnoticed. Hanuman’s ideas have been recognized globally through ABB’s annual innovation challenges, and he’s often invited to represent the company at external forums. But for him, the real reward lies in the quiet moments – the conversations that spark trust, the teams that feel more supported, and the individuals who feel seen and valued.
When asked to describe ABB in a single phrase, Hanuman calls it “the future of our generation.” To him, it’s a place where technology meets humanity, and where integrity, sustainability, and inclusion aren't just values – they're actions.
