From dry docks to data: My first year in ABB’s GETP

Meet the people in ABB Ireland, a dynamic team that is making a real difference through being part of a supportive and inclusive work environment where we encourage each other to grow and develop skills, and contribute to impactful work that matters.

Together, we are building a sustainable future for generations to come.

From marine projects in Helsinki to her next role in Zürich, Madeleine embraces the opportunities the Global Early Talent Program offers. By collaborating across teams and experiencing ABB’s impact firsthand, she discovers purpose in helping build a more sustainable future.

Madeleine Högfors, Global Early Talent Program Trainee, Finland
Madeleine currently works as a Project Controller for the Large Azipod team in Marine and Ports, within the Process Automation business area in Helsinki, Finland. Her next assignment will take her to the Electrification business area, where she will serve as a Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst at ABB’s headquarters in Zürich, Switzerland.

She joined ABB’s Global Early Talent Program (GETP) drawn by the unique opportunities it offers – working abroad, taking on different roles, and engaging with diverse businesses. As she put it, “I saw it as an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and accelerate both personal and professional growth.”

Motivated by a strong sense of pride in ABB’s mission, Madeleine continually seeks to improve and learn. In her first assignment, she collaborated with stakeholders across Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and Production, gaining valuable insights to complement her finance background.

“I saw it as an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and accelerate both personal and professional growth.”

Our values are the cornerstone of our culture. They shape everything we do, guide our behavior and interactions with our colleagues, customers, partners and society as a whole, and help us realize our purpose. By living our four ABB values, we lead by example in how we do business and behave.
Memorable moments included a week at ABB’s Zürich headquarters with fellow trainees, where engaging sessions with senior leaders and networking opportunities enriched her experience. Another highlight was visiting dry docks across Europe, witnessing ABB’s marine products in action during commissioning and servicing – an experience that, in her words, “gave me a deeper understanding of the business and its impact.”

ABB has actively supported Madeleine’s development, entrusting her with meaningful responsibilities and providing access to courses ranging from coding to platform and system training. Through the GETP, she has also participated in self-development and leadership training. She approaches her career with an open mind, embracing every opportunity to learn from skilled and passionate colleagues.

She believes many people would be surprised by the breadth of ABB’s influence in everyday life – powering homes, enabling massive cruise ships, keeping hospitals and schools running, and even energizing electric race cars. In her eyes, ABB is guided by a clear vision for a better future, helping industries and communities run in a leaner and cleaner way.

If she had to describe ABB in one word, Madeleine would choose: Purposeful.
