The ABB Internship Program offers more than just a steppingstone into the professional world. It provides a balanced experience where interns gain practical skills, develop a broader understanding of the technology industry, and connect with others through engaging networking activities.
Built on three core pillars, the program gives interns an overview of ABB’s operations to understand how the business functions, practical and impactful tasks that contribute to real projects, and opportunities to foster connections through team-building events and activities. To better understand what it’s like to be an intern at ABB, we spoke with four participants about their experiences.
Similarly, Daniel, Test Engineering Intern, found his internship invaluable for gaining insights into industrial automation. He explained how working on testing Variable Frequency Drives and exploring systems like sensors and communication protocols gave him a deeper understanding of the challenges in hardware testing. “It wasn’t just about following procedures,” he said, “but about understanding the reasoning behind every step.”
Meanwhile, Kirill, Electrical Engineering Intern, focused on project management, explaining how his tasks — from creating diagrams to preparing materials and finalizing documentation — helped him develop independence and confidence in handling responsibilities.

Learning beyond the classroom
For Maryia, Mechanical Engineering Intern, the program offered a firsthand introduction to the mechanical field, an area she had not explored before. She described how her summer internship allowed her to work with tools and learn about Drive construction, principles, and even model and drawing creation. Reflecting on her progress, she said: “I could not even imagine that it is possible to learn so much in a few months.” Similarly, Daniel, Test Engineering Intern, found his internship invaluable for gaining insights into industrial automation. Unforgettable moments at LaitseRallyPark
All four interns highlighted The Internship Day at LaitseRallyPark as the most memorable. Maryia described it as a perfect mix of learning, fun, and inspiration, where she could meet colleagues informally, hear their career stories, and even drive rally cars.
