Transition to GKN and Advanced Materials 

Inderjit's next significant move was to GKN, where he worked in their Research and Development Centre. Here, he honed his skills in advanced materials, contributing to innovative projects and expanding his expertise. This period was crucial in shaping his technical acumen and understanding of complex materials. 

A Shift to Commercial Role in Germany 

An opportunity to join a commercial team as a technical expert took Inderjit to Germany. Initially focused on materials, he gradually transitioned into a purchasing expert role. This experience broadened his perspective, blending technical knowledge with commercial acumen. His two years in Germany were transformative, equipping him with a unique skill set that bridged engineering and business and included becoming fluent in the German language. 

Leadership Roles at Cable Management Group and Smith's Industries 

Inderjit next joined the Cable Management Group (Adaptaflex, Kopex, Elkay and Harnessflex), part of Smiths Industries plc, in a supply chain and purchasing role. His responsibilities quickly expanded to cover the Flex-Tek European Division, overseeing 11 sites. Here, Inderjit applied his engineering understanding to optimize supply chain processes, focusing on cost reduction through process improvements and logistics enhancements. 

Manufacturing and Operations at Coleshill 

Inderjit's career took another turn as he moved into manufacturing and operations at Coleshill. Over the years, he held various positions covering quality, technical, and commercial roles. His ability to adapt and excel in different functions showcased his versatility and commitment to continuous learning.  

Building a High-Performing Leadership Team 

One of Inderjit's proudest achievements is the development of a high-performing leadership team at Coleshill. Recognizing the need for fresh perspectives, he brought in new talent and fostered a culture of excellence. His approach emphasized the importance of customer-centricity, ensuring that all operational improvements translated into tangible benefits for customers.

Inderjit believes that staying in one job for too long isn't always good for career growth. He points out that many chief executives only last a few years in their roles, so there's no need to feel obligated to stay in one position. 

Inderjit also highlights that he has experienced significant changes within the same company due to five takeovers. Each takeover brought its own set of changes, reinforcing the idea that change is the norm. He encourages others not to be afraid of change and to see it as an opportunity for growth.

As Inderjit transitions to a taking the lead on more strategic project roles, he reflects on his journey with a sense of fulfilment.
