“Years ago, I took my first step into the professional world as a fresh graduate at ABB. Little did I know, this journey would be defined by remarkable shifts, shaping me as I refined my skills, broadened my knowledge, and personally evolved.”
In 2008, Hepy joined ABB as a fresh graduate, and her journey at ABB has since been marked by several notable transitions. She started as an HR administrator but shifted to specialise in managing work permits and related documentation for expatriates after just six months. After dedicating three years to expatriate management, she briefly explored recruitment before returning to focus on expatriate affairs in 2012. Her most recent shift in her ABB journey came when one of her colleagues moved to a new role, and she filled the vacancy of payroll.
Initially, Hepy had reservations about taking on the new role. “It’s difficult, given my background is in sociology. But my Country HR encouraged me to try, assuring me that my predecessor was still within the company, and ready to assist whenever needed.” With the backing of her colleagues, Hepy decided to go for it. She recalled, “The first and second months were particularly tough. I had to start from square one, learning every aspect of payroll, from tax calculations to mastering each step of the payroll process.” To Hepy, having a close-knit team is paramount, as they consistently rally to support one another.
Hepy’s time at ABB has been significant not only in honing her professional skills but also in nurturing her personal growth. “I feel like I grew up in ABB. Since it’s my very first job fresh out of university, ABB has profoundly shaped my personality.” Moreover, Hepy realised that she has matured in her interactions with colleagues, due to the culture of open communication encouraged by her managers. “I consider myself an introvert. When I was younger, I would be hesitant to voice my concerns. But now, I have the privilege of working with incredibly supportive managers. Be it in favourable or bad situations, I feel comfortable approaching them. They would also be interested to hear about our thoughts and perspectives.”
Hepy has been part of ABB for 15 years now. Her job satisfaction stems from the ongoing opportunities to enhance her skills and knowledge, all while finding enjoyment in her work. “ABB is a dynamic environment, with new projects unfolding each year. We have various learning avenues, accommodating individuals like me who started as fresh graduates, or those without prior experience in specific roles, such as myself in payroll or tax.” Hepy feels that each day at ABB presents fresh challenges and learning opportunities. “ABB is an excellent place to work. I hope to contribute much more to ABB for a long time. As long as ABB needs me, I’ll give it my 100%.”
