My name is Madeleine, and I am currently working as a Project Controller for the Large Azipod team in Marine and Ports, Process Automation. My next assignment will be at the Electrification Business Area as a Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst.
Why were you interested in joining ABBs Global Early Talent Program?
I was intrigued by the experiences that ABB and the program has to offer. By spending time abroad, working in diverse roles, and engaging with different types of businesses, I knew I could broaden my skillset and push myself outside of my comfort zone to accelerate both personal and professional growth.
“I’m keeping an open mind and grabbing any chance there is to further develop personally as well as in a professional sense.”
Our values are the cornerstone of our culture. They shape everything we do, guide our behavior and interactions with our colleagues, customers, partners and society as a whole, and help us realize our purpose. By living our four ABB values, we lead by example in how we do business and behave.
What keeps you motivated at work? Can you share some experiences from your time at ABB so far?
At ABB, there is a sense of pride in our products and our mission, which motivates you to continuously strive to be even better.
So far in my first assignment, I have had the pleasure to work with a wide range of stakeholders across various departments. Through close collaboration with functions such as Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and Production, I have gained valuable knowledge which complements my background in Finance.
As part of the program, we spent a week at ABB’s headquarters in Zürich, where we were welcomed to the company alongside other trainees. The week included engaging sessions with senior leaders and valuable networking opportunities.
Additionally, in my role as Azipod Project Controller, I have had the chance to visit dry docks across Europe, and witness firsthand the commissioning and servicing of our ABB Marine products. Getting the opportunity to learn about the business on so many levels has been one of the many highlights during my first assignment.
How has ABB supported your development—and how would you like to grow next?
ABB has offered plenty of opportunities for growth. In my daily work I am offered to take on responsibilities which help my development, as well as chances to take courses – such as learning coding from professionals and the use of different platforms and systems. On top of that, the GEPT program offers opportunities through courses, for example on self-development and leadership. I’m keeping an open mind and grabbing any chance there is to further develop personally as well as in a professional sense – I’m learning new things every day by working alongside my skilled and passionate colleagues.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about ABB?
I think people might be surprised in how many different things around them ABB is involved, without necessarily making a lot of noise about it. From the small things like how your home is energized, to the massive cruise ships you spend your vacations at. From sustaining hospitals, schools, airports and other key facilities, to powering the E-race cars you watch for entertainment. ABB works in the background to make the world run in leaner and cleaner way.
If you could describe ABB in one word (or sentence), what would it be?
