Growing with purpose: Elise’s career journey at ABB

Meet the people in ABB Ireland, a dynamic team that is making a real difference through being part of a supportive and inclusive work environment where we encourage each other to grow and develop skills, and contribute to impactful work that matters.

Together, we are building a sustainable future for generations to come.

Elise’s story at ABB is one of growth, creativity, and finding her voice. What began nearly seven years ago as a student internship has evolved into a role where she leads global initiatives, designs user-centered learning experiences, and shapes how people engage with Procurement tools.

Elise Alvarez Slaska, Global Project Manager, Poland
Elise has been with ABB for nearly seven years. She started as a 19-year-old intern and has since grown into leading her own initiatives as a Global Project Manager and a Communication and Training Workstream Lead for Procurement. Outside of work, she keeps her creativity alive in many ways – by singing, acting, and loving being on stage. These interests often inspire how she approaches her projects; after all, every project has its own rhythm, a bit of drama, and when done right, a great finale.

At ABB, her focus is on developing communication strategies, training, creating user-centered learning programs, and improving user experience in our tools. In practice, this means simplifying complex processes so that people can understand and enjoy using them.

Elise mentions that she has always seen herself as a creator – someone who builds, improves, and designs. When she joined ABB as a student, her role was mostly answering emails and clicking through tasks. Over time, her drive to improve things helped her move into a more creative, impact-driven role where she gets to design platforms, build training solutions, and shape user experiences.

When asked, “Why did you want to develop your career at ABB specifically and not anywhere else?” Elise says that “for me, ABB stood out as a company that values innovation and people. I wanted to be part of an environment where innovative ideas aren’t just welcome, they’re expected. That combination made ABB the right stage for building my career.”

“I wanted to be part of an environment where innovative ideas aren’t just welcome, they’re expected.”

Our values are the cornerstone of our culture. They shape everything we do, guide our behavior and interactions with our colleagues, customers, partners and society as a whole, and help us realize our purpose. By living our four ABB values, we lead by example in how we do business and behave.
When talking about the challenges and advantages of seeking growth in her area of expertise. Elise mentions that Procurement is a highly process-driven area, so the challenge was finding space for creativity. But that challenge became the opportunity. She was able to bring in design, communication, and user experience skills to make tools and training more accessible. From building a training platform to redesigning applications for smoother navigation, Elise found ways to make the complex more user-friendly.

Elise’s story at ABB shows how the organization allows and supports people to grow and expand their skillset. From an intern to the Global Project Manager – the journey of growing confidence and successful career.
