Summer job in marketing

My internship in marketing and communications included a wide range of hands-on tasks. I worked with image editing using Adobe Creative Cloud and created various layout materials, such as a consumer brochure distributed at the Housing Fair. I was also responsible for social media content planning: I created a summer social media calendar and scheduled posts across different channels using a social media management platform.

I participated in event marketing by helping organize ABB’s stand at the Housing Fair and working on-site throughout the summer. My tasks included collaborating with various stakeholders, photographing ABB products at exhibition locations, and executing the marketing plan created for the fair.

In addition, I updated the abb.fi website, especially for the Electrification and Smart Buildings product areas. I monitored and analyzed marketing performance by creating analytics reports using GA4 and Google Looker Studio.

Summer job in order handling

My internship as an order processor focused on the technical and commercial handling of international orders. I worked daily with SAP, OMS, and Salesforce systems, as well as Office 365 tools, particularly Excel.

In practice, I ensured that orders matched the quotations before confirmation: prices were correct, required variants included, delivery terms in place, and delivery dates realistic. I worked closely with design, sales, and production teams to ensure that orders progressed smoothly into the production process.

The role included rotating weekly responsibilities across different orders, which added variety and responsibility and provided a strong overall understanding of the international order-to-delivery process.

Summer job in logistics

In operational work, I was responsible for booking and managing transports across different systems. I arranged shipments for units, prepared customs instructions based on supplier documentation, and reviewed freight invoices to ensure they matched contractual agreements.

On the development side, my work focused on maintaining and improving logistics systems. I collected development needs from the team, defined required changes, and ensured that system updates functioned in practice. I made system updates, such as updating transport price lists to reflect agreements with carriers. I also participated in smaller development projects, including improving invoice verification and experimenting with Power BI solutions.

Knowledge of systems such as SAP has been particularly useful in this role.

Summer job in quality

My internship in quality was versatile and included both operational and development tasks. My responsibilities included investigating and reporting quality cases and supporting actions related to production development. I analyzed failures in electronic circuit boards and participated in root cause analyses.

In addition, I contributed to maintaining the management system, creating process descriptions, developing performance metrics, and conducting analyses, which provided a comprehensive understanding of quality management processes and development areas.

Summer job in project management

My internship in project management was diverse and highly practical. During the summer, I assisted project managers in planning and executing ship dry docking projects, including handling procurement initiatives, preparing cost calculations, and invoicing. I also had the opportunity to lead smaller projects independently, taking responsibility for planning and execution, chairing meetings with key stakeholders, and communicating with customers.

Within the team, I also worked on warranty and contract-related tasks, organizing warranty-phase activities for projects and assisting in creating and updating SAP structures for service contract vessels, as well as comparing service tables. Additionally, I carried out internal development work, such as tracking warranty projects in Power BI, collecting shipyard data, and developing processes. I actively used SAP, JIRA, Excel, and Power BI, with responsibilities increasing alongside experience.

Summer job in customer service

My internship in customer service focused on order handling and customer support. My daily tasks included updating order statuses via email and Teams, managing tracking numbers and delivery dates, and holding monthly meetings with customers to review orders and potential issues.

I used SAP and cBOL/EasyOrder systems to approve, cancel, and modify orders. In addition, we coordinated complaints through the NCR system, working closely with quality and logistics. I also collaborated regularly with other teams, such as production, purchasing, and technical support, to ensure smooth and accurate service for customers.

Summer job in R&D

During the summer, my task was to analyze the use of machine learning algorithms in condition monitoring of drives. I carried out similar tasks as a part-time intern and in my master’s thesis, focusing on monitoring both load and internal components of drives using unsupervised machine learning models.

Our team primarily focused on analytical solutions for low-voltage drives, such as the ACS880 family, with particular emphasis on online condition monitoring.

Summer job in maintenance

My internship in maintenance focused on electrical and mechanical maintenance as well as servicing production machinery. My tasks included troubleshooting and repairs, maintenance work supervision, and spare parts inventory management. I also participated in maintenance and development tasks related to production testing and worked when needed as a switchgear assembler and repair techni-cian, supporting smooth production operations.

Summer job in HR

My internship in the HR and communications team was varied and hands-on. I was responsible for internal communications within our unit, such as sending weekly newsletters, sharing current updates across channels, and updating intranet pages. I created and published intranet articles and planned, wrote, and published our unit’s employee magazine.

I participated in various projects, including organizing summer parties and Christmas events, implementing theme weeks and days, and planning a new introduction video. I also created career stories by interviewing summer employees and writing about their experiences. In addition, I updated presentation materials and other communication assets, participated in customer visits, and supported the unit assistant with tasks such as checking travel expense reports and preparing visitor passes.

Summer job in design

My internship in OBE mechanical design included designing parts for customers and creating 3D models based on technical drawings. I also built a library of 3D models for the network drive and contributed to production development by designing new parts for larger fuses. During the summer, I also had the opportunity to test newly released software.

I used PTC Creo and Creo View, SAP, Microsoft Office, Azure DevOps, and the Windchill PLM system in my work.

Summer job in production

Production internships offer a wide range of summer job opportunities. Work may take place in painting, saturation, final assembly, or as an automation line operator. Tasks range from assembly to quality control, and the content of the work depends on the factory and product type.

Summer job in production supervision

My internship in production supervision included a wide range of tasks, from daily work supervision and maintaining the production backlog in SAP to responding to customer inquiries and prioritization. I worked closely with the quality function and buyers, approved employee time records, handled urgent production matters, and managed small project tasks from a production perspective.

I also participated in job rotation and shift planning, monitored occupational safety, and led daily and weekly meetings for production employees.

Summer job in IT

My internship in IT was closely connected to daily production operations. My tasks included replacing production computers with new ones, managing user access rights across different systems, and keeping the machine registry up to date. In practice, I ensured that production computers, applications, and peripheral devices functioned smoothly.

I also assisted production employees with user account activation, arranged new computers and copiers as needed, and carried out network cross-connections for new workstations. I was present in the production environment almost daily. In addition to core tasks, I took on additional IT responsibilities, such as ensuring that reports were updating correctly.

Summer job in production development

My internship in production development focused on project management and improving production processes. Daily tasks included maintaining ongoing projects, such as responding to emails, participating in meetings, communicating with subcontractors, and resolving issues. I updated project reports, resolved issues in Power BI reports, and participated in small production improvements, such as implementing QR codes for first aid points and automating processes using Power Automate.

The role also included project planning, for example designing routes for automated forklifts and planning pallet volumes in a production environment. Successful work requires a strong understanding of production processes so that development areas can be clearly communicated to all project stakeholders.
