We are thrilled to share the inspiring journey of Shweta Rana, a remarkable leader in technology at ABB. Shweta’s story is a testament to the power of diversity and the impact of effective mentorship.  

Shweta’s journey at ABB 

Shweta joined ABB a few years ago and has been appreciative of how incredibly adaptive the organization and teams have been ever since. She credits her mentors for significantly enhancing her learning and career growth throughout her time in the organization by giving her the right exposure and guidance. Shweta believes her ability to take ownership, collaborate and strive for excellence every day at work have been the cornerstones of her success.  

The role of diversity in leadership 

Shweta strongly believes in the importance of embracing different backgrounds to ensure diversity in leadership. Despite the challenges that come with comprehending ABB’s vast business operations and managing a large global team, Shweta managed to overcome the initial hiccups by focusing on the objectives that were set for the team as part of a larger organization, skill building and collaboration, both within and outside the service.   

Opportunities and growth at ABB 

“ABB gave me great opportunities to learn and grow. It’s a fantastic place to develop as an individual. You get to work on diverse projects, and your ideas 

are valued,” shares Shweta. She values ABB’s inclusive culture where gender is not a barrier to get into technical roles. As Shweta transitioned from being a Service Owner for Security Consultancy Services to now leading the Security Architecture and Integration function, her passion and expertise were recognized and nurtured throughout the process.  

Supportive environment 

ABB’s supportive environment has been instrumental in Shweta’s success. Her colleagues were approachable and helpful, and through plenty of certifications and training opportunities, Shweta gained necessary knowledge to do well in her role.   

Most rewarding aspects 

“The most rewarding aspect of my journey at ABB is the people. I am blessed to work with supportive teams, peers and leaders, who are not afraid to think outside the box, question the status quo and innovate.” she says. “There is a lot of focus on learning, employee wellbeing and personal development, which is what truly sets ABB apart.” Shweta strives to strike a comfortable balance in her personal and professional life and ABB provides her with the room to do just that.    

Future aspirations 

Shweta is passionate about encouraging young talent to take up the field of information security. She has mentored many interns and new joiners during her tenure in ABB and aims to continue learning and growing in her personal and professional capacity.  Her passion for nurturing young talent and giving back to the community that has helped her grow, is truly commendable.
