What does your typical workday look like? What kind of projects and tasks do you work on?
Usually, I start my day by checking on my list of priorities. This is important as there’s a lot going on and sometimes, in the mornings, there are specific tasks assigned to me from other countries. I need to be aware of anything pending. I always try to check my calendar for the upcoming day and plan. Also, I want to make sure that everything is fine with our team, so I try to connect with my team members as well. I really enjoy working with people, together with the team (even if mostly online), so my calendar is quite filled with meetings and brainstorming with people.
What kind of development opportunities have you had in your role?
During my career, I have been able to combine a lot of my experiences and bring those into my current role. I have been able to learn more about the technical aspects of security-related items. Right now, we are trying to improve our career paths by combining knowledge with technical skillsets and this is a huge opportunity for me as I don’t have a technical background – I have a master’s degree in pedagogical science and a bachelor’s in sociology! I use my project management skills in my current role, supporting project managers and leading them, rather than having projects assigned to me.
What is your favorite part about your role as an IS Solution Architect?
I really like to analyze situations. I’m a huge fan of improving and making improvements. I enjoy talking about things and brainstorming on what should be changed and how, together with my team. I know that the rest of the team really enjoys that, too. I believe that brainstorming together is the most enjoyable and exciting part – we take small steps and combine them to make bigger improvements together.
What do you enjoy the most about the culture at ABB?
I really like the fact that we are a group of people from all around the world. I like to be part of a multicultural organization. Right now, a lot of changes are on, but still, I feel that we are respecting each other in any case and trying to learn from each other and view things from different angles. We are global and I feel like, at Infosec, our people can support ABB globally. It makes me proud – we support security topics, and ABB has a great reputation. There’s a lot of pride in working at ABB. My kids love the fact that their mom works for a company that creates robots!
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of applying to ABB?
There’s a huge space for being not only a person responsible for a set of requirements. There’s a great opportunity to create a crafted environment for your work and from my own experience, this is a great starting point. If you feel like you want to develop, there are a lot of opportunities to do that at ABB.
How did you experience returning to ABB from your maternity leave?
Honestly, returning to work from maternity leave was tough for me. I had to be prepared for a new structure and was asked to support financial staff, which was a challenge as I had no prior experience in financial processes. Thankfully, I had my mentor, and we managed to tackle these challenges together. Looking back, I was extremely scared because I always used to say that I want to do everything perfectly and the financial processes and governance of the financial part seemed very difficult. At ABB, I felt a lot of support coming when returning from my leave. It was daunting in the beginning, but we managed to create a new environment and now we are very happy and proud that we have managed it and we had fun along the way.
